How Exercise Bikes Make Sense

Article by Chris

Many of us are looking for ways to get in shape. Exercise is sometimes a difficult task due to our hectic lives. Finding time to go to the gym to workout can be a real hassle. Work, family, and extracurricular activities take up much of our time. We often must sacrifice some important activities to fit all of this into our schedules. We must cut corners to ensure we are living a health and fit life. One method to ensure we are getting enough exercise is to find a way to get that exercise without taking too much time out of our busy days. Exercise bikes provide a way for us to get a workout in the comfort of our own homes without having to deal with the issues that going to a gym presents.

If you are thinking of purchasing an exercise bike take a look at these exercise bike reviews to get an idea of what you want or need. Research your purchase thoroughly to ensure it can do exactly what you want it to.

Exercise bikes come in a variety of shapes and sizes. They are often designed for a particular purpose or to fill a need that is presented by a certain situation. Do you live in a small apartment that would be difficult to accommodate one of the fitness bikes you see in a gym? There is a bike for you. Do you have back problems and think that these machines would hurt too much? There is a bike for you too. Maybe you think that exercise equipment costs too much? You can find exercise bikes fairly cheap if you are willing to sacrifice some features. There really is no reason to limit your exercise habits with the innovations that have arisen in this field.

Types of Exercise Bikes

The various types of exercise bikes may surprise some of us. When we think of this type of fitness equipment we often think of the upright version. Amazingly enough, an extraordinary number of different versions are available. Take a look below to get an idea of what these various versions have to offer. Keep in mind that these are just overall categories. There are a large number of subcategories that many of these can fall into.

Upright Exercise Bike: The upright exercise bike is the typical bike we think of when someone mentions a fitness bike. They often resemble a real bicycle that is ridden on the road. Some of their characteristics include a “hunched” posture, heavy flywheel, and the ability to provide a solid workout. Spinning exercise bikes fall into this category.

Recumbent Exercise Bike: Recumbent bikes are more comfortable than any other type of exercise bike. You are in a laid back position with your feet slightly in front. These bikes are made for comfort. It is almost like sitting in your favorite recliner when you are riding one of these. These also come with a number of features such as on-board computer, magazine racks, and quiet operation.

Fan Exercise Bikes: This is a tried and true exercise bike. A fan is located in the “wheel” portion to provide a current of air and resistance. The resistance in natural as opposed to the engineered resistance of other bikes. The faster you pedal on this bike, the more resistance the fan provides. This design has been time-tested and is a proven piece of exercise equipment.

Folding Exercise Bikes: Some of us don’t have as much space in our house as we would like. This is where a folding exercise bike comes in. These exercise bikes can be easily stored and do not take up much space when in use. They are often designed in an X-shape to allow for easy folding and storage. Some even have attachment for you to place your laptop on the front so you can work while getting exercise.

Buying the right exercise bike often comes down to what you are looking to accomplish. Many of us have ridden those fitness bikes at the gym and wish we had one at home. The gym bikes are often very expensive and an average person may not be able to afford one. These are commercial grade bikes that are designed for high use. Gyms pay large sums for their exercise equipment because it is top-notch quality. They are well designed and meant to take the abuse of being ridden all day by a large number of people. Do we need to spend the thousands of dollars on one of these models to get the same experience? The answer is a resounding no unless you plan on riding for 12-16 hours a day.

Recumbent Exercise Bikes – Advantages

There are so many exercise bikes available that it’s easy to be overwhelmed. Spinning bikes, stationary bikes, dual action bikes, and recumbent bikes are probably some of the terms you’ve heard. It’s almost as though you have to be a fitness equipment engineer to understand the differences! Here’s a quick summary of these confusing terms.

Spinning Bikes

You’ve probably heard about the spin craze that has become so popular in health clubs. Spinning bikes usually have at least a front wheel that spins (which is why they are so brilliantly named spinning bikes). These bikes might be the current fad, but they aren’t very comfortable. The seats are small and hard. The classes make these boring bikes more interesting, but as home exercise bikes, they quickly become tedious.

Stationary Bikes

Stationary bikes (or upright bikes) are the exercise bikes that most people can identify. It’s the same basic model as in the 1980′s. Once again, it’s fairly uncomfortable. You can’t really do anything like read or watch TV because you’re leaning left and right and bouncing, sit, too, quickly gets boring.

Dual Action Bikes

Dual action bikes are aptly named, as they give you both an upper and lower body workout. There are handles that move independently – much like an elliptical machine. It’s a good workout, but a bit tough for beginners, and as usual, the time on the bike will eventually get boring.

You can also get dual action bikes that allow you to adjust the machine tcreate an arm-pedaling workout. It’s usually fairly difficult to make the adjustments. It’s also to separate exercises, which create a longer workout. Most people aren’t as likely to keep up such a routine.

Recumbent Bikes

Recumbent bikes are the exercise bikes with the comfortable bucket seats. You sit back and lower to the ground as you pedal. These exercise bikes are easy enough for even the most sedentary beginners, and they usually offer workout programs to keep the workouts from becoming mundane.

The Experts Recognize the Advantages of Recumbent Bikes

Most physicians and personal trainers recommend recumbent bikes. Recumbent bikes are better for people of all different fitness levels. You are more likely to keep up a recumbent bike routine over time, the bikes are safer, and there are different benefits for both men and women.

Recumbent Bikes for All Fitness Levels

Even the most sedentary person will find a recumbent exercise bike easy tuse. You can adjust the settings to offer little or no resistance as you pedal. People whare overweight will definitely find the seat much larger and more comfortable than other exercise bikes.

Athletes will find the recumbent exercise bike a challenge. The resistance can become incredibly difficult. The bike can simulate pedaling up hills. Most recumbent bikes offer various programs that will require you to sprint and tackle hills. If you want an upper body workout as you pedal, you can easily add weights and do repetitions as you sit back in the recumbent bike seat.

Recumbent Bikes Offer a Sustainable Workout

The programs offered by most recumbent exercise bikes definitely keep the workout from becoming boring. You can simulate a course that is easy or difficult, flat or hilly. When shopping for exercise bikes, it’s better to get a bike with as many variations as possible.

The fact that a recumbent bike is suitable for all levels will keep you getting back on the bike. If you’re feeling particularly tired or lazy one day, you can have an easy workout where you can read a book or newspaper. If you really want TO TEST your limits, you can crank up the music, set the machine to more difficult levels, and add some weights for an upper body workout.

Recumbent Bikes are Safer

Because you sit back and lower to the ground in a recumbent bike, it is better for your body. Most exercise bikes force you to hunch over, causing a stiff back. Some dual action bikes are back injuries waiting to happen. Recumbent bikes require that you sit with good posture as you pedal.

Recumbent bikes also offer one of the few cardiworkouts that put no pressure on your knees and other joints. You can’t “cheat” on a recumbent bike and stand up when you’re finding it more difficult to pedal. Standing like that on other types of exercise bikes puts unnecessary pressure on your knees and ankles. Recumbent bikes let your body exercise at an angle where your body weight is not stressing your joints. Even people with back and knee problems will find a recumbent bike easy tuse.

Why Men Should Choose Recumbent Exercise Bikes

Smany men neglect their lower bodies when they workout, especially in strength training. It’s common to see buffed out men with giant biceps and tiny little bird legs. That’s because it’s easier to get an upper body workout at home. If you just invest in a recumbent bike, you can set the machine thigh resistance. You will build leg muscle, and you can even do curls while you pedal.

Recumbent bikes can also allow men to get a great cardiworkout without the discomfort that only a man knows on regular bikes or other types of exercise bikes. With the large, comfortable seats of recumbent bikes, you are much more likely to enjoy your workout pain-free.

If you move the seat of a recumbent bike up a bit to bring your legs higher, you can even target the lower abs and have to do less crunches to get the bottom of your six-pack!

Things Women Should Know About Recumbent Bikes

To words, ladies: legs and bottoms. Recumbent exercise bikes are so comfortable and easy tuse that eventually you can do workouts giving you results like you’ve spent hours a day on a stair-stepper.

Recumbent bikes can give you a fat burning cardiworkout with enough resistance to help you build long, lean muscle. Picture Tina Turner legs. Recumbent bikes also are great for your inner thighs. Using different programs and settings, you will be able to target different muscle areas in your legs for longer looking, leaner legs.

According to most polls, women claim in higher numbers to not have time for exercise because of more responsibilities in the home. With the positioning of a recumbent bike, you can multi-task to more easily fit in a workout. You are able tread, catch the news, and even use a phone or your handheld organizer.

Finding a Recumbent Exercise Bike

With prices between 0 and 00, there is quite a variety of recumbent exercise bike available. Use the Internet to find great deals (including free shipping most of the time). Because the bikes are great for any level and help you to finally be able to stick with a safe and effective workout routine, you can splurge a little. This is definitely one of the best investments you can make for your health.

Question by dimick1: How do you intall a Kayak pool liner with a deep end?
I am installing a new liner in a Kayak pool and want to make one end deeper. I know they have liners that call out a deep end of 5 1/2 feet with the shallow end of the pool at 4 feet. My question is, when you are digging out the end of the pool that is to become the deep end, how do you know what slope to make the incline?

Best answer:

Answer by Pool Gal
That is strictly up to you.
Make the incline comfortable ,
not difficult to navigate.
Less dramatic drop off is better.

Question by N. joel Harris: What equipment do I need to get started kayak fishing?
I am living in Northeast Florida and am trying to get started kayak fishing. I need to know, besides a kayak of course, what type of equipment is necessary and essential to get started and be successful at kayak fishing.

Best answer:

Answer by eoh418
I am not an avid kayak angler, however i have been kayak fishing a couple of times. I figure since no one else is answering i could try and offer some suggestions. Obviously a kayak, but there’s certain considerations there too. A fishing kayak would be ideal, since it is already designed and equipped with rod holders and such. If you cant get one equipped for fishing i suggest an ocean kayak, because they are wider, sturdier, and don’t roll over easily.

Life Jacket (safety first, right?)
Signaling devices in case of emergency
Anchor
Rod holders
Leashes for paddle and rods (i lost a rod while trolling from a canoe once)

Snags can be difficult to retrieve from a kayak… i don’t know what it is called, but my friend gave me tool that is a spiral wire type of thing you can run down your line and it will dislodge your lure. Since i was using expensive musky lures, this tool was invaluable to me!

I’m sure there is more to consider, but that is all i could think of at the moment… hopefully someone with more experience will come a long and add to this.

Good luck!

issue of : What kind of kayak I should go to the coast and the islands a few miles outside will receive
I’m trying to run, kayak, and my ultimate goal is to kayak and camp on some islands a few miles off the coast. The islands are the Gulf Islands National Seashore, south of Mississippi. I am planning for this training on the bay and to and from an island about 0.5 miles thats called Deer Island. What is the best type of kayak at the beginning in such a matter Best Answer:

 reply c_kayak_fun
definitely want a closed deck kayak that with a skirt, one that has a built in skeg or rudder, storage hatches and bulkheads can use. Depending on your size, you would do something 14 ‘or more in length and with a rather narrow and V-shaped hull. The longer and narrower the boat, paddle, the faster and lighter, they tend to, and it becomes easier way to waves and wind. Expect to pay at least $ 1000 to $ 1500 for all you have to pay you – kayak, spray skirt, a good paddle, a spare paddle, Drybags transmission, approved a Coast Guard PFD and safety equipment such as a bilge pump and Lauflicht.Du really should a good deal kayak equipment (not a general sports shop) and talk to them about your plans and they fit in various designs. Fit is very important in a kayak. And if you paddle in the open ocean (or anywhere else, for that matter) be sure and a few hours in both technology and security planning. Do not try this type of offshore trip until you e practiced and mastered re-enter your kayak to flip. It is not often happen but it’s always a possibility. I, m sure you know when you’re near the water, how quickly conditions of a calm and sunny day too crazy life changing wind, lightning and heavy waves. Make sure you are prepared to sind.Holen good equipment and a good guide and you’ll have a blast.

Answer by coloclone
I call mine an Inflatable Kayak…. It’s made by AIRE… and it’s awesome so fun and you can take it anywhere. I recently ran Class IV water in it so it’s tough. And if you wanted you can strap gear to it for overnighters or more.

And the really nice thing about it is if/when you flip or are bucked out you’ve got 700lbs of floatation right there!

Other brands NRS, SOAR and Sevylour.
