Try Out Your Inflatable Canoe : Planning A Canoe Trip

I thought I’d go over a few tips for when you take out your brand new inflatable canoe or inflatable kayak. Most of what follows is common sense, though I feel its worth putting down anyways!

  • Beginners ought to have a shorter trip.
  • Beginners should not bring young children their very first time out there.
  • No Sandals! Good old athletic shoes or true water sandals only should be worn.
  • Pack a dry change of clothes.(leave in vehicle, change whenever you go back)
  • Bring along a thirst quenching beverage (i.e. drinking water, iced tea, lemonade) inside a non-breakable bottle. Alcohol shouldn’t be taken on the river.
  • Take foodstuff and clothes in a leak-proof container tied to your inflatable canoe.
  • Allow sufficient time for swimming, picnicking, resting.
  • Stay off private property.
  • Appreciate fisherman and don’t cross their lines.
  • Secure belongings in car.
  • Put on your life jacket at all times.
  • Do not overload your canoe.
  • Do not stand up in your canoe.
  • Dress for the water temperature and be prepared to get soaked.

Most importantly, don’t forget to have FUN!
